Briarlake Elementary
We'd like to let you know about our Briarlake Elementary Farm to School Initiative.
Each month the Briarlake Healthy Habits Team (our Wellness Committee) supports the District's Georgia Produce of the Month (Farm to School). Our team provides information about the healthy fruit or vegetable to students, families, and teachers. We have a dedicated poster board with information inside the cafeteria, we send home a flyer, ad provides resources to the teachers. We also ensure the children know about the day through morning announcements and parents through the weekly PTA e-blast. On the actual day a member of our team provides stickers, hand stamps, and takes photos of the children with their Farm to School lunch items to help celebrate the day and encourage consumption. We have a FaceBook page where we help support the Briarlake School community know about Farm to School.
In addition, Briarlake has wonderful school gardens, composting, and vermiculture http://georgiawildlifefederation.wordpress.com/2012/05/17/briarlake-elementary-how-outdoor-education-can-work/).
