School Health Index
The more we understand the many angles of school wellness and identify the challenges faced with supporting them all, the better equipped we are to meet the needs of our school communities.
In DCSS, each school is (and has been) required to complete an annual School Health Index evaluation. The process is lengthy, tedious, and too often not seen as the valuable tool it's designed to be. Often, it is experienced as "more work" for an often already maxed out work force. If you will look at the documents, you will see that they are hundred and hundreds of pages.
PDF versions of the assessments can be found here:
Elementary
Middle and High
As parents, teachers, administrators, and students, you are allowed to know the results of your school's SHI evaluation and if involved in your school, potentially can participate in the assessment and support. PLEASE do not inquire to criticize. PLEASE inquire to offer support and facilitate a healthier school.
Together, we really can improve the health of our school environment. It deserves our intention and attention.
